At Acadian Companies’ annual company meeting on May 3, 2018, Regional Coordinator Martin Lee was recognized as the 2018 National EMS Academy Employee of the Year. A division of Acadian, National EMS Academy’s primary objective is to provide education and training to those seeking to enter the emergency medical services industry.
Lee came to Acadian Ambulance via the Metrocare acquisition in 2009. Formerly a combat medic in the U.S. Army, he graduated with honors and received the Soldier of the Cycle award while in advanced individual training. This award is given to the best soldier in the graduating class. Before joining Metrocare Ambulance Services in 2005, Lee served as an army medic during Operation Iraqi Freedom for eight years. While on active duty, Lee was inducted into the prestigious Audie Murphy club.
Lee has an extensive background in emergency medical education. He was an honor graduate from the U.S. Army Academy of Health Sciences 91-Bravo Medical Specialist in 1995 and he earned his associate’s degree in Emergency Medical Sciences from Fayetteville Technical Community College of North Carolina in 1999. He holds a Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the Academy of Oriental Medicine at Austin, along with many other certifications.
Lee started as an education coordinator with the National EMS Academy in 2009 and became the regional coordinator for central Texas in 2012. Martin helps with orientation and American Heart Association courses, instructs paramedic classes, acts as the continuing education administrator and oversees the Texas A&M Engineering Extension paramedic program.
“Martin is the glue that keeps National EMS Academy together in Austin,” says Program Manager Greg Mullen. “He tirelessly devotes many hours ensuring that student’s needs are met and serves as a mentor for many. Our success in central Texas is due in large part to his attention to detail and outstanding work ethic. Martin can always be counted on to help out different departments when the need arises. I am proud to call Martin both a colleague and friend.”
