EMT is an entry-level position in the emergency medical services field. The EMT training program is 12 weeks long and teaches you the skills you will need to work as part of a medical response team with other EMTs and paramedics. EMTs provide basic emergency medical care and transportation to patients who access the EMS system. Medics make a difference, every day.

The Skills You Will Learn in EMT School

  • Opening the airway and providing artificial ventilation
  • Delivery of semi-automated defibrillation
  • Controlling severe bleeding
  • Dressing and bandaging wounds
  • Splinting injured extremities

EMT Course Composition

Instruction, Practice, Clinical Time

  • Skills Instruction and Practice: Two 4-hour sessions weekly

  • Ambulance Clinical Time: Two 12-hour shifts

  • Total Course Content: 240 hours

Course Schedule

A Hybrid Class: Part Online, Part in the Classroom

This is a hybrid course. Students will be able to complete the academic elements of the EMT course online and will spend two 4-hour days per week in a classroom learning hands-on skills. It will take 12 weeks to complete all courses and earn a certificate.
