To help meet the demand for EMTs and paramedics, the National EMS Academy, an Acadian company, has opened a new education facility located in the New Orleans region. Preparations are underway for the first EMS class in the new facility to begin on May 13.

The EMT class, in partnership with South Louisiana Community College, is a hybrid mix of instruction and testing hosted online plus hands-on simulation courses held on campus, located at 5749 Susitna Drive, Suite B, in Elmwood.

EMTs and paramedics are in high demand nationwide. Acadian Ambulance is currently hiring both levels of medics in the New Orleans area and throughout their four-state service area.

“With the opening of the National EMS Academy campus in New Orleans, we hope to bring in people who are interested in something other than college or a desk job, and help train them in a career in EMS,” said National EMS Academy Manager Gifford Saravia. “Young people in New Orleans can go to school for a few months, start working sooner and continue on a viable career path—without ever needing to leave home.”

The National EMS Academy is dedicated to providing a positive learning experience for students, using a combination of classroom instruction and real-life simulation to create an exciting environment for learning. They provide innovative solutions to real-world problems and continuously monitor our effectiveness.

Students who are interested in pursuing their EMT certification and learning about National EMS Academy’s program and the coursework must attend a free information session, which are being held on Wednesday, April 17 at 6 p.m. and Monday, April 22 at 1 p.m. Orientation for the semester is Wednesday, April 24.
