The National EMS Academy’s (NEMSA) paramedic program was reaccredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) on January 15, 2015. NEMSA is a partnership between Acadian Companies and South Louisiana Community College (SLCC) and was formed in 2003 to meet the needs of the EMS communities in Louisiana. All NEMSA instructors serve as SLCC adjunct faculty and students are able to take full advantage of college resources through all seven NEMSA locations.
The peer review conducted by the CAAHEP for the Emergency Medical Services Professions and CAAHEP’s Board of Directors recognizes a program’s substantial compliance with the nationally established accreditation standards. The next comprehensive evaluation of the program, including an on-site review, is scheduled to occur no later than 2020.
“We have always strived to administer the best EMS training by offering the most up-to-date methods taught by highly experienced instructors,” said NEMSA Program Manager Greg Mullen. “Our Academy works hard to continuously achieve that goal and remain on the cusp of EMS education.”
One of the largest EMS training providers in the country, NEMSA is one out of only three college programs in Louisiana to have their paramedic program accredited by CAAHEP.
