VILT at NEMSA is undergoing a change!

For the last five years, the National EMS Academy online Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) sessions have used iLinc, which requires both a computer and a phone line to attend. Starting October 1, NEMSA will be transitioning to WebEx, a more modern VILT platform. Unlike our older platform, WebEx has integrated voice over IP (VoIP) audio which eliminates the need for a separate phone line. WebEx also works on more mobile devices including Android and iPhone.

Over the next weeks, we will be providing more details and instructions on how this will change how you attend class.

Until then, here are answers to some frequently asked questions.

Do I have to install anything to attend class after October 1?

Yes. The first time you log in after October 1, you will be prompted to download the WebEx client. If you want to preinstall WebEx and test your device in advance, go to:

Is there a preferred web browser when using WebEx?

Yes. The best browser for using WebEx is Google Chrome. Safari and Firefox are also compatible. Internet Explorer and Edge are not recommended.

Can I still use a phone line?

WebEx supports high quality voice over IP (VoIP) audio in the program. If your device is equipped with speakers, you will no longer need to dial in using a telephone. You will need a microphone if you wish to communicate verbally with the instructor.

If your PC does not have speakers, you can still use a telephone for audio. We will no longer be offering a toll-free number and long-distance charges will apply if you do not have free long-distance calling.
